WPL 2025 Auction: Uncapped Indian Stars Steal the Show

The WPL 2025 auction in Bengaluru became a day for uncapped Indian players, who became the talking points with attractive bids. The auction saw the sale of 19 players with five overseas cricketers as squads have been all but finalized. The mix of promising domestic talent and seasoned international stars created excitement as the event headed toward the end of the bidding process.

Uncapped Players Lead the Pack

An all-rounder from Mumbai Simran Shaikh was the biggest bidding buy in this auction as Gujarat Giants bought her for INR 1.9 crore (around 223,000 dollars). Shaikh is already a part of WPL Auction 2025 and had come to the auction at base price of INR 10 lakh. However, her domestic numbers were boosted by her performances in 2024 when she scored 176 runs in nine innings in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy-including.

Another uncapped acquisition was the 16-year-old Tamil Nadu batter G Kamalini bought by Mumbai Indians for INR 1.6 crore or around USD 190,000. In one of the matches that mattered most during the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup, Kamalini did everything expected of him by scoring 44 runs in 29 balls, paving the way for victory. Prema Rawat, another leggie from Uttarakhand, has also joined RCB for INR 1.2 crores (around USD 140,000), who comes in making quite a name for herself in Uttarakhand Premier League and will be participating in her first WPL season.

Overseas Stars Make Their Mark

Meanwhile, West Indies allrounder Deandra Dottin emerged as the costliest foreign pick. Gujarat Giants purchased Dottin for 1.7 crore (200,000 USD approx.) to snap her back for their set-up and once again draw the attention of their supporters towards them. Her co-star at the Giants would be England allrounder Danielle Gibson.

UP Warriors picked Alana King from Australia, while Scotland’s Sarah Bryce found a spot in Delhi Capitals. The all-rounder from South Africa, Nadine de Klerk, was bought by Mumbai Indians for around INR 30 lakh (USD 40,000 approx).

Squads Strengthened with Strategic Buys

Delhi Capitals picked four players including Shree Charani, the costliest uncapped bowler of this auction at INR 55 lakh (approximately USD 70,000). They also picked wicketkeeper-batter Nandini Kashyap and Sarah Bryce to ensure depth in batting and keeping options.

While Mumbai Indians focused on the younger talent like Kamalini and Akshita Maheshwari, RCB went on to reinforce their squad with as many as four uncapped players, including Rawat and Jagravi Pawar. UP Warriorz adopted a very limited approach, signing just three players, including the experienced Alana King.

Notable Unsold Players

But quite astonishingly, no capped Indians were sold in the auction. The high-profile list that was unsold also included Sneh Rana, England’s Lauren Bell, Heather Knight, and the former South Africa opener Lizelle Lee. The fact again signaled how uncapped and emerging talents took center stage as the franchises shaped up their teams.

Excitement Builds for WPL 2025

With the auction closing, teams looked happy with what they had chosen, as excitement for the WPL 2025 season heats up.
