Ishan’s blazing century helped SRH post a colossal 286 for 6 – the second-highest total ever in IPL history – as the SRH crushed the Rajasthan Royals by 44 runs in an exhilarating performance at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad in the second match of the Tata IPL 2025. While good efforts from Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel did show signs of hope, the SRH’s main fast-bowling attack had left the Royals in tatters by then.
Winning the toss, the Royals decided to bowl first: a move that would spectacularly backfire. SRH opener Travis Head began with the aggression, blasting 67 runs from just 31 balls, but Ishan’s blazing century was the real show, making an enviable batting look as Kishan raced to 106 not out in just 47 balls, a knock of utter flamboyance interspersed with all manner of boundaries and huge sixes to bring the Hyderabad crowd to its feet.
Kishan’s ton was not just about muscle; it had a healthy dose of controlled aggression and awareness of the match situation. Along with the support of fellow SRH batters and contributions from the middle order, SRH posted an astonishing score of 286/6. That was just one run shy of the all-time top IPL total (287/3), which SRH themselves had set.
The Rajasthan bowling attack had a nightmare day, with the pacers and spinners alike running amok. Jofra Archer marked his name in the history of IPL as a holder of worst-ever bowling figures, giving away 76 runs in four overs without a wicket to his credit. Among the slaughter was Tushar Deshpande (3/44), who alone had some control, but further damage had already been done.
Chasing the mammoth target of 287, the Rajasthan Royals struggled from the outset. Their misery deepened when they lost three wickets in the power play, including that of their substitute skipper, Riyan Parag. Sanju Samson, the impact substitute, tried to anchor the innings with a well-made half-century. Dhruv Jurel’s innings were also vital, but by then, the required rate was already climbing out of reach.
In the end, despite their efforts, RR finished with 242/8 on the board at the end of 20 overs, losing by 44 runs. Their major letdowns were not converting on key moments when they presented themselves with an opportunity and not having massive partnerships in the middle order.
Whereas the batting fireworks stole the show for SRH, the bowlers ensured the other part for the victory. The pacers struck early and got rid of the key batters of RR and made things difficult for them to get some semblance of momentum. The spinners in the middle overs choked the run flow, tightening the noose with every passing moment around RR’s batting line-up. This entire bowling effort made sure SRH’s massive total was never within striking distance.
The resounding performance of Sunrisers Hyderabad in their very first encounter of Tata IPL 2025 is a clarion call to all teams. Man-of-the-Series award winner, Ishan’s blazing century along with the good overall display of the team on the whole seems to have all it takes to be among the strong contenders for the trophy. This match serves as a wake-up call for Rajasthan Royals to work on their bowling deficiencies and plan better for future matches.
So far, that’s the electric beginning of the season; IPL 2025 Match Predictions say this would surely be the most fascinating year of the competition yet, as the league goes ahead in one of the most exciting editions of all time. Looking forward to some more high-performing games and some amazing clashes.
