The Indian Cricket team has revealed its players who will participate in a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh beginning October 6 in Gwalior. In the list of selected players, fast bowler Mayank Yadav has been called into the national team for the first time after an impressive performance during the 2024 IPL. In the course of the IPL, he had become a talking point of how fast he bowled and how well he would bowl to players. This must have figured in his being selected for this series.
Mayank Yadav’s Debut sprang onto the radar with his performances in IPL 2024 where he played 7 matches, picked up 7 wickets, and did so at an economical rate of less than 7 runs. Another notable member back into the Indian team is that of bowler Varun Chakarvarthy. Chakravarthy, who has not donned Indian colors for a match since November 2021, returns after a brilliant IPL season with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). During IPL 2024, Chakravarthy was the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament, scalping 21 wickets in 15 games. Such T20 league performances have not only brought him back into contention but have also impressed the Indian coaching staff’s considerations, particularly with the T20I’s spin department looking to be more potent.
Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, who have played a crucial role in Team India’s resounding 280-run win over Bangladesh in the Test format recently, have been given a break for the T2oI series. Considering India is set to play 10 test matches shortly including the one at Chepauk, the management has decided to manage the workload of these two players.
In the squad, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma will share the keeping duties. Samson has been a consistent performer in the shorter formats of the game and is regarded as a dependable keeper, while Jitesh Sharma has been given another chance to showcase his talent at the senior level after having done will previously.
Hardik Pandya, an all-rounder, also had personal issues earlier this year and left the ODI format opting out of the squad and returning to the side. His inclusion will offer much-needed depth to the team, more so to the middle order as well as his bowling departments.
