Indian Men’s Cricket Names Gautam Gambhir as Head Coach
Gautam Gambhir Appointed Head Coach of Indian Men’s Cricket Team
BCCI has appointed Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team. Rahul Dravid has been replaced as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team by Gautam Gambhir. After Gambhir’s interview with Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik of the Cricket Advisory Committee, the announcement was made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Gambhir is known for being a “fierce mentor and a brilliant strategist,” and the BCCI expressed confidence in his ability to bring the same passion and leadership to his new position in a media statement. Starting on July 27, 2024, in the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka, Gambhir, a former opener for India, will be in command.
Rahul Dravid has achieved significant accomplishments as head coach. He helped India win the T20 World Cup and placed second in both the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC 50-over World Cup in 2023. Dravid’s job ended after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI expressed its sincere appreciation for the services rendered by Dravid and his coaching team, which included Paras Mhambrey, T. Dilip, and Vikram Rathour.
The BCCI welcomed Gautam Gambhir and highlighted his worth of expertise and comprehension of the game. During his career, Gambhir has participated in two major tournaments: the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2007 ICC World T20. His recent success as a mentor and his leadership in leading the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014 solidified his legend.
Within the Indian team, Gambhir wants to promote a culture of discipline, excellence, and teamwork in his new role. His focus is on developing fresh talent and getting the team ready for international challenges. Honorary Secretary Jay Shah pointed out how well Gautam Gambhir’s vision matched the board’s objectives, while BCCI President Roger Binny expressed trust in Gambhir’s leadership and vision.
Gautam Gambhir himself conveyed a great deal of pleasure and enthusiasm about the chance to serve the country in this new role. To succeed in future competitions, he praised Dravid and his team for their excellent effort. He expressed his excitement about collaborating closely with BCCI officials, players, and support personnel.
Along with expressing their best wishes to Gautam Gambhir, the BCCI’s leadership—including Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, Treasurer Ashish Shelar, and Joint Secretary Devajit Saikia—also highlighted his deep leadership insights and understanding of cricket. The Indian cricket community is excited about Gautam Gambhir’s potential to lead them to great success and transformation as he embarks on this new assignment.
