Team India will get busy with the Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner. It would, therefore, be an appropriate time when the Board of Control for Cricket in India will firm up the teams for their upcoming international assignments. In this regard, January 12 has been marked for crucial squad announcements – the squad for the Champions Trophy, the T20I, and the ODI squads for the series against England.
The Champions Trophy, the “godfather of cricket” tournaments for legacy and elite competition, will have India’s campaign watched by aficionados and experts alike.
With ICC setting the deadline to send in the provisional squads, BCCI is likely to announce the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy by January 12. It has also been learned that the selection panel has been told to announce the squad for the five-match T20I series against England on January 11.
The ODI team for the England series is also likely to be named along with the T20I team, or the following day. Teams competing in the Champions Trophy can change their provisional squads until February 13, allowing selectors to deal with injuries or form slumps closer to the tournament.
But that’s just about the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, promising loads of action as it pits eight of the world’s best teams into two groups of four. India falls in Group B alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.
The event starts on February 19, with India’s first match on February 20 versus Bangladesh. The big ticket game is likely to be on February 23 between India and Pakistan in Dubai. Other big group-stage games are against New Zealand on March 2.
If India reaches the semifinals, the knockout stage is scheduled to start on March 4, with the final on March 8 in Dubai. Fans all over the world are looking forward to this tournament, which is usually filled with high-intensity matches and a closely contested format.
Once in between the Champions Trophy, India plays England at home in a five-match T20I series starting on January 22 in Kolkata, which is a very apt preparation ahead of three ODIs on February 6, 9 and 12. This would enable the team to firm up its combinations as well as give game time to the key players ahead of the global event.
